Project Overview
A new entrance addition was desired to address safety and visibility concerns while allowing for better connections between administrative and learning areas. The project also included new maker space, staff offices, a reconfiguration of the cafeteria, and a new elevator.
The Challenge
The top priorities included keeping faculty, staff, students, and parents safe, informed, and engaged throughout the project. We also had an extremely tight urban site with a lot of vehicle and pedestrian traffic along with a constrained budget.
How We Made It Happen
Careful planning including scheduling most of the disruptive construction activities during the summer months while the building was less occupied and daily coordination between school operations and construction activity. Periodic reports were customized and communicated to different stakeholder groups.
The Outcome
The school has a safer and more welcoming entry to greet students and guests. Educational and innovation focused spaces were expanded with a flexible design to adapt to changing uses. The school became better positioned for growth and additional phased improvements.
