Renovate the Grain Belt Brewery into office space, consolidating employees previously housed in three separate buildings.
Built in 1891 and vacant since the mid 1970s, the building lacked heat, electricity, running water and presented environmental hazards. The property was owned by the City of Minneapolis and the renovation was largely funded by the City. Additionally, the Brewery's designation as a national historical landmark required that all aspects of the project be approved by the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
Nelson, Tietz & Hoye coordinated the efforts of the developer, the property owner and the client while negotiating with the City of Minneapolis and community groups to yield a highly competitive lease and a spectacular space. This project received the 2005 National Preservation Honor Award by the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
